What Keto Really Means
Keto is simply a way of eating where you get most of your energy from fat instead of from starchy carbs like ugali, rice, chapati and bread. Normally your body burns glucose (sugar) from these foods for fuel. When you cut carbs low enough, your body runs out of easy sugar and switches to burning fat instead. This fat-burning state is called ketosis, and it is where the word keto comes from. You do not need fancy imported foods to do this. Everyday plates of sukuma wiki, eggs, omena, avocado, meat and a little healthy oil already fit keto well. The big change is eating far less of the starchy staples and sugary chai that fill most Kenyan meals. Think of it like switching your car from one fuel tank to another. It takes a few days to change over, but once you do, your body learns to use fat as its main energy.
Takeaway. Keto means teaching your body to burn fat for fuel instead of sugar from starchy foods.
