Avoiding 'chemical' sunscreens (oxybenzone, avobenzone) out of fearKeep using sunscreen — any kind. If you prefer, choose a mineral (zinc oxide / titanium dioxide) formula.
FDA found some filters absorb into blood but has NOT shown harm; the strongly proven fact is that sunscreen prevents skin cancer and ageing. Don't skip it.
Ditching fluoride toothpaste over online 'toxin' fearsKeep using ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste. 'Fluoride-free' is only a personal preference, not a health upgrade.
Cochrane reviews and the ADA show fluoride toothpaste clearly prevents cavities; supervise small children's amount to limit fluorosis.
Expensive branded moisturisers for very dry skin, cracked heels or eczemaPlain petroleum jelly or pure unrefined shea butter (locally made and cheap in Kenya).
Petrolatum is a well-evidenced occlusive that reduces water loss; shea butter is an affordable, widely available emollient.
