Black pepper (Pilipili manga)
A kitchen staple across Kenya, freshly ground or whole into stews (mchuzi), nyama choma rubs, soups, eggs, and sukuma wiki. On keto it seasons fatty meats, avocado, buttered vegetables, and bone broth without adding carbs.
Traditionally used to aid digestion, ease bloating and gas, and stimulate appetite; folk remedies also add it to warm drinks or honey to soothe coughs, colds, and sore throats. These are traditional uses, not proven treatments.
Essentially zero net carb in normal culinary amounts and fat-friendly; its piperine may modestly boost absorption of fat-soluble nutrients, so it pairs naturally with oily, high-fat keto dishes.
