Your Three Macros Made Simple

Keto balances three things called macros: fat, protein and carbs. On keto, fat becomes your main energy, protein keeps your muscles and keeps you full, and carbs stay very low. A rough guide many people use is high fat, moderate protein, and low carbs. In real Kenyan food terms, a good keto plate might be eggs fried in a little oil, a pile of sukuma, some omena or beef, and half an avocado, with no ugali or rice on the side. Protein foods like eggs, omena, chicken and beef are usually affordable and filling. Do not fear fat from real foods such as avocado, eggs and oily fish, because on keto fat is your fuel, not your enemy. The mistake many beginners make is eating low carb but also low fat, which leaves them tired and hungry. Fill that gap with real, whole fats.

Takeaway. Eat plenty of fat, enough protein, and very few carbs — that balance keeps keto working.
