Handle the Pressure Kindly

In our culture, refusing food can feel rude, and people may push you to eat the mandazi or take more rice. You do not owe anyone a long explanation. A simple "nimeshiba, asante" or "I am watching my sugar" is enough, and most people respect that. You do not need to announce you are on a diet or make others feel judged for what they eat. Eat before you go if you know the event will be all carbs, so you arrive full and relaxed. Bring a small dish you can eat, like boiled eggs or roast meat, if that suits the gathering. Remember your goal is yours; nobody at the table has to agree with it. Being firm but warm keeps the peace and keeps you on track. One event will not decide your whole journey, so stay easy on yourself.

Takeaway. A polite "nimeshiba, asante" protects both your goal and the friendship.
