The Whoosh: Why the Scale Suddenly Drops

Sometimes on keto the scale sticks at the same number for a week or two, then suddenly drops a chunk overnight. People call this a whoosh. Here is the likely reason: your fat cells hold water for a while even as the fat inside them shrinks. The scale looks stuck, but change is happening underneath. Then your body releases that trapped water all at once, and the number finally moves. So a plateau is often not a real stall, it is just water hiding your progress. What to do? Do not panic and do not starve yourself. Keep eating your eggs, sukuma, omena and healthy fats, keep drinking water, and keep sleeping well. Stress and poor sleep make your body hold onto water longer. Stay consistent and the whoosh usually comes. Your job is to keep the habits steady and let your body catch up in its own time.

Takeaway. A stuck scale is often just trapped water, and the sudden drop, the whoosh, comes when your body finally lets it go.
